Coney Island Polar Bear Swim
Sunday, November 13, 2005
BROOKLYN, NY The Coney
Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United
States.
"We swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from October
through April."
Take a cold water splash as the
Cultural Research Divers and the New York Historical Diving Society dress
the president of the Polar Bear Club Louie Scarcella in a 1943 Vintage US
NAVY Mark V Diving Suit.
"It's a celebration of life.
When you are in the water you know you are alive. It is also great for the
mind and body. We also believe it strengthens the immune system. We have
some of the greatest and most interesting people in the club."
